CHAPTER 6

'TWAS NOT MY LIPS YOU KISSED BUT MY SOUL. ~ JUDY GARLAND

She couldn’t believe he was kissing her. Her. Roxy Horne. His lips parted, inviting her to deepen the kiss. She let herself relax as his tongue slowly dipped inside—allowing herself to enjoy all the sensations. Heat. Electricity. Passion.

She’d never been kissed like this before. Deep. Strong. His lips probing and pulling back just long enough for her to crave him—before he was back kissing her like she was the only person in the world.

Her chest leaned into his as she tried to get closer. Her body hummed as his lips devoured her. Her hips tilted up, praying for attention. His hands slid down along her thighs.

Goodness. His lips skimmed down her neck. Light flashed behind her eyes as she angled back giving him better access. She wanted more. So much more. Her leg raised, wrapping around his thighs.

She should stop, but the ache in her core couldn’t get her to pump the brakes. She was too busy pumping his body like a horny Chihuahua.

A loud ahem interrupted and she tried to move away, but Rafe’s arms were around her like a vise.

“There you are. We need you.” A guy Roxy didn’t recognize stood a few feet from them. How he’d gotten there, Roxy would never know. When Rafe kissed her, her situational awareness went out the door.

“Why?” Rafe rested his forehead on Roxy’s shoulder and whispered, “The house better be burning down.”

“Johnny’s throwing up.”

“What do you want me to do about it?” Rafe growled. Roxy agreed.

“I thought you’d want to know,” the guy practically whined.

“I’m good.” Rafe waited for the guy to disappear and then he drew his head back and smiled. “Where were we?”

“Rafe!” another guy called from the patio.

Rafe sighed. “This isn’t working.” His mouth lifted into a mischievous grin. “Do you trust me?”

She knew the answer should be no, but something about Rafe… She hated to admit it…she trusted him. She nodded.

“Follow me.” He led her around the house and into the front yard. There were a few people milling around and the music was still loud, but the vibe was a lot quieter out front.

Just the type of place to restart what they’d begun out back.

Rafe stepped closer to her and smiled.

“Rafe!” another voice called from the front door.

He sighed. “They hate me.”

“Rafe, you gotta come inside. Someone threw up on your mom’s couch.”

“She’s not my mom.” Rafe shook his head and just seemed to give up. “Please don’t leave,” he murmured to Roxy. “I’ll be right back.”

She smiled. “I’ll be right here.” And she would. Just to get a chance to kiss him again.

Rafe disappeared into the house.

The night was beautiful. A slight breeze wafted, bringing cool air across her cheeks. It was quiet, with the exception of the music that pulsed low from inside the house.

Outside, couples made out and people smoked. But overall, it was quiet. She turned to check out the neighborhood. Rafe’s neighbors must be pretty accepting, allowing a party of this magnitude to occur.
